Forum Thread: Accidentally deleted my EFI partition on OS X

I accidentally deleted my EFI partition on OS X. It is completely gone. I need to fix it ASAP, so I have a few questions about this...

1) What exactly does the EFI partition do?
2) Is the EFI partition necessary?
3) How do I restore/repair/remake it?

I have a Macbook Pro (13-inch, mid 2010) 2.4 GHz running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Your EFI partition stores info about where the other partitions start and stop. OS X requires it, but you don't need it if you're only running Linux. There may be another way, but if you create a USB OS X Install Disk (using a friend's mac if you don't have another one around), you can simply boot from that USB disk and it'll recreate the EFI partition for you when you install OS X. It will require you to wipe your drive entirely though, so I hope you've backed everything up.

use carbon copy cloner to reinstall the recovery partition.
